STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) – Caithness Bid

CNSRP submitted a bid to the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) in March to host the fusion prototype site STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) in Caithness.

We are now pleased to announce that the application made by the partnership has passed the show stopper assessment and is being included for further evaluation by UKAEA. The next stage of the process is a thorough technical assessment to assess the comparative suitability of the proposed sites.

Once all assessment processes are complete, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy will make a final decision on the site; anticipated around the end of 2022.
